The brief we hear most often out here
Camden grew faster than almost anywhere in Sydney over the last fifteen years, and the housing stock shows it. Thousands of homes in Oran Park, Gregory Hills, Harrington Park and Spring Farm went up to a project-home specification between roughly 2010 and 2024. The kitchens in them are not failing. They are just the standard inclusion: a long single run of flat-panel doors, a modest island, a laminate top, a bank of cupboards where drawers should be, and a pantry that is one shelf short of useful.
That changes what a renovation means here. A strip-out is often the wrong answer. The right answer is usually a targeted upgrade: keep what is square and serviceable, replace what gets touched a hundred times a day, and add the thing the house was clearly built ready for.
Four upgrades that do the most work
New fronts and new drawer gear. Replacing doors, panels and runners over sound carcases changes the whole feel of a kitchen for a fraction of a rebuild. See cabinetry and joinery.
A butler's pantry or scullery. Many corridor floor plans have a nib wall, a wide walk-through or a generous laundry sitting right behind the kitchen. That is where the second sink, the toaster, the air fryer and the mess go. See butler's pantries.
A benchtop that suits the household. The laminate top is usually the first thing to look tired. See benchtops and splashbacks.
A reworked island. Widening it, adding seating on the right side, moving the sink out of it, or getting power into it properly. Islands are the single most common thing people want changed.
Where the full job is the right call
Older Camden, Elderslie and the streets around the town centre are a different proposition. Inter-war and post-war cottages near John Street have small, closed-in kitchens, often with a separate laundry or back porch tacked on, sometimes with heritage considerations over the façade. Opening those kitchens up, re-running services and starting the cabinetry from scratch is a genuine renovation, and worth doing properly. See full kitchen renovations.
Acreage and semi-rural blocks on the Mount Annan fringe and out toward Cobbitty throw up their own quirks: tank water, septic systems, bottled gas and long service runs that need to be checked before a plan is drawn.
Design comes before anything is ordered
Every job starts with a measured plan, elevations, an appliance schedule and a services mark-up. That is what stops the familiar problems: a rangehood that cannot be ducted, a dishwasher that fouls the island seating, a fridge cavity that will not take the fridge the family actually owns. See kitchen design and planning and how the job runs.
Two reference pages worth reading before you decide anything: appliance planning and kitchen sinks and taps.
Alfresco kitchens are real work here
Nearly every newer home in the corridor was handed over with a covered alfresco slab and a gas bayonet. Turning that into a built-in outdoor kitchen — weather-rated cabinetry, a proper benchtop, a sink and a servery line back to the main kitchen — is one of the most popular jobs we arrange. See alfresco and outdoor kitchens.

Upgrade the builder spec, or start again
| Decision | Targeted upgrade | Full renovation |
|---|---|---|
| Suits | 2010s–2020s project homes where the layout works and the carcases are sound | Closed-in older kitchens, water damage, or a layout that has to move |
| Cabinet carcases | Kept, re-hung and re-fronted; drawer gear replaced | New throughout, set out to a fresh plan |
| Services | Stay roughly where they are; new points added only where needed | Plumbing, waste, gas and circuits re-run to the new plan |
| Time without a kitchen | Days, not weeks, once the benchtop is templated | Two to four weeks on site in most homes |
| Usual add-on | A scullery or butler's pantry behind the main run | Opening the kitchen to the living or alfresco zone |

How a kitchen gets from measure to handover
Measure and brief
On site, with the existing cabinetry, services and appliance sizes recorded. Nothing is priced from a photo.
Drawings and schedule
Plan, elevations, an appliance schedule and a services mark-up, so every point is agreed before manufacture.
Fixed written price
Itemised line by line — cabinetry, benchtop, splashback, tapware, trades and making good. See the cost guide.
Manufacture off site
Cabinetry is built while your kitchen is still in use, which is what keeps the house usable.
Install and template
Strip-out, cabinets in, benchtop templated and fitted, then splashback, tapware and appliances.
Handover and defects
A walk-through with the doors and drawers adjusted, and anything on the list closed out before the final payment.

Questions people ask before they commit
Do I need a full renovation, or can the existing kitchen be upgraded?
In most homes built from 2010 onwards the carcases, services and layout are sound, so new fronts, new drawer gear, a new benchtop and a reworked island get you most of the way. Older closed-in kitchens in Camden and Elderslie usually need the full job. We price both directions at the measure so you can see the gap.
How long is the house without a kitchen?
A targeted upgrade is usually a few days of disruption. A full renovation is normally two to four weeks on site, because cabinetry is manufactured before anything is pulled out and the benchtop is templated only once the cabinets are standing.
Can I still get engineered stone benchtops?
No. Engineered stone was banned across Australia from 1 July 2024 because of the silicosis risk to the workers who cut it. Porcelain, natural stone, solid surface, timber and laminate are all still available and all have a place.
Who actually does the work?
Kitchen renovation work is carried out in partnership with Coastal Renovation Group, a licensed NSW builder. Licence and insurance details are provided on your discovery call, or whenever you ask.
Do you cover the whole Camden Council area?
Yes, plus the parts of the corridor that spill over the boundary. Narellan, Oran Park, Harrington Park, Gregory Hills, Mount Annan and Elderslie have their own pages, and Spring Farm, Currans Hill, Catherine Field, Cobbitty and Smeaton Grange are normal territory.
